Seven functions, usually five visible forms

Eastern Armenian has seven grammatical cases. For many inanimate nouns, nominative and accusative look alike; genitive and dative also often share one form. The exact genitive pattern varies by noun, so this lesson uses a regular example.

Դաշտը մեծ է։Dashtə mets e.The field is large.Pronunciation: ə is a short “uh” sound.
Ես դաշտում եմ։Yes dashtum em.I am in the field.
Մենք դաշտից ենք գալիս։Menk’ dashtits’ enk’ galis.We are coming from the field.Pronunciation: ts’ and k’ are aspirated.
