ⓘ
Armenian written in Latin letters; not a pronunciation guide.
Books for studying Eastern Armenian and getting to know the country, its food and its history. All are optional companions to the free course.
If you want one practical companion, start with one of the language books. If you want extra motivation, the food and history titles make the language feel more connected to real life.

Expanded 2nd edition · Beginner to pre-intermediate
A structured companion for working through grammar, vocabulary and everyday communication. Includes recordings, exercise answers and online flashcards. Useful if you like to practise on paper alongside the online lessons.
Good to know: Choose this or the self-study course below according to the approach you prefer; you do not need both.
Beginner to intermediate
A course built around 28 everyday topics, combining reading, writing, speaking and grammar. Armenian text is supported by transliteration and English translation, making it a useful option while you are still getting comfortable with the alphabet.
Good to know: A more substantial study commitment than a pocket phrasebook.
Hippocrene · Romanized edition
A compact reference for everyday words and practical situations such as shopping and travel. Useful when you want to look up a phrase without working through a full course.
Good to know: This edition uses romanized Armenian. Use it for phrase reference, alongside separate Armenian-script practice.
Recipes, photography and stories from Armenia
More than 60 recipes, together with photography and essays about food in Armenia. A way to connect food vocabulary with dishes you can prepare and share at home.
Good to know: Written in English; this is a cultural companion rather than a language course.
Columbia University Press · 2006
A detailed study of Armenian history and the development of identity in Armenia and the diaspora. Suitable for readers who want to understand the historical background behind the language and its communities.
Good to know: A substantial academic book in English. Its historical coverage runs to 1988, so it is not a guide to current events.
