Most position words follow the noun

Many Armenian equivalents of English prepositions are postpositions: they come after the noun. The noun before them commonly takes a genitive form.

Examples

Գիրքը սեղանի վրա է։Girk’ə seghani vra e.The book is on the table.Pronunciation: k’ is aspirated; ə is “uh”; gh is voiced and throaty.
Ջուրը բաժակի մեջ է։Jurə bazhaki mej e.The water is in the cup.Pronunciation: j is as in “jam”; ə is “uh”; zh is the sound in “vision”.
Կատուն սեղանի տակ է։Katun seghani tak e.The cat is under the table.Pronunciation: gh is voiced and throaty.
